Farther and Further
Farther: refers only to physical distance; at or to a greater distance
Example: We walked farther than the map indicated.
He walked farther down the road.
Further: refers to physical distance like farther; moreover; additional; more extended; at or to a more advanced point; more distant.
Examples: Does this mean a further delay? (more extended)
We will not discuss this further! (at or to a
more advanced point)
Nothing could be further from the truth. (more
distant)
Further meetings seem pointless (additional)
Fewer and Less
Fewer: refers to a number that can be counted; it means of a smaller number
Examples: fewer days off, fewer words more action
Less: refers to an uncountable amount; it means to a smaller exent, amount or degree
(note: the word number is NOT used in the description of less)
Examples: less rain, less exact
Flair and Flare
Flair: a natural talent, aptitude or ability, knack; distinctive elegance, style
Examples: She had a flair for writing poetry. (knack)
Their window display has absolutely no flair at all.
(distinctive elegance, style)
Flare: to blaze with a sudden burst of flame; to expand or open outward in shape ; to intensify or erupt
Examples: Tempers falred at the meeting. (erupt)
The flare of her skirt looked amazing.
(outward curvature)
His flared nostrils (open outward)
The fire flared up with a bright light. (blazed)

Ferrule and Ferule
Ferrule: a short metal sleeve for strengthening the tool at the end holding the tool.
Example: The ferrule on this pencil adds to the design and looks stylish.

Example: The heavy ferule on the master's desk is a source of great trepidation for the children.
Fineness and Finesse
Fineness: the state or quality of being fine; the property of being narrow or thin; having fine texture
Examples: The inn is distinguished by the fineness of its cuisine.
(quality of being fine)
He marvelled the fineness of her hair.
(property of being thin)
The fineness of the sand on the beach attracted the attention of many. (fine texture)

Finesse: extreme delicacy or subtlety in action, performance or taste; adroit and artful management
Examples: Her exceptional diplomatic finesse earned her a good reputation in the company. (adroit management)
My friend was audacious and furtive and availed my pizza with finesse. (adroit management)
She handled the fragile vase with great finesse.
