How to Register for the SAT

Posted Mon, 26 May 2008 18:16:21 -0000 by Krista Boniface

How do I start to register for the SAT?

Keep in mind you have to register at least a month before the actual testing day.

Find your local test center to select when you want to write the test (one of the 7 test dates of the year) and where. The you will find the code to your local SAT test center.

I want to register. How do I go about this?

From here there are 3 ways to register for one of the 7 test days of the year.

1. ONLINE

Although these following images are pretty small to see, you'll get the idea of the information you'll be filling out. Step 1 is asking you to enter your student information. This includes things like your name, gender, where you live, when you were born and information on your high school and contact information.

Secondly, you'll have to fill in a parent or guardian's information. This requires mostly name and contact information.

Step 3 of the online process asks for you to come up with a username and password as well as just a question about whose filling out the form.

This is all very simple once you get onto CollegeBoard's site. They do a great job laying all of this out. After the above form, you'll have to go through and outline your interests, college of choice, etc. Then you'll go through by filling in the code you've already acquired for your given test center, the day you wish you write and where.

2. MAIL

  • You must pick up an SAT Registration Booklet, which is available at your school counselor's office. The Registration Form and return envelope are included in the SAT Registration Booklet. For here, you can mail in your cheque of the fee as well as your registration.
  • The address provided if you have lost the return envelope ..
College Board SAT Program
901 South 42nd Street
Mount Vernon, IL 62864
3. STANDBY

According to CollegeBoard you have the option in the very last minute approach of registering by standby. This is found directly on the CollegeBoard website...

To be considered for standby testing, please be present at the test center on test day before 7:45 a.m. You must include payment of a standby fee in addition to the regular fee for the test or tests you wish to take.

To register as a standby, be sure to:

  • Fill out the Registration Form completely and be sure to fill in the oval for the standby fee in item 18; otherwise, your scores will be delayed.
  • Include payment for the test fee, plus the additional standby fee. Payment must be in the form of a check, money order, or credit card (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, or Visa). Do not enclose cash. Checks and money orders should be made payable to "The College Board." Insufficient payment will cause your scores to be delayed.
  • Enclose the completed form and proper payment together in the envelope provided and seal it.
  • Place the appropriate label showing the test month on the envelope.
  • Bring the sealed envelope to the test center and give it to the supervisor when you check in.
  • Bring an acceptable photo ID.

Hope this helps! Best of luck with registration. And why not start to prepare by checking out our great resources: lessons and tests!! There's tons to check out.

    Dear Kanika,

As the performance in both the exams is important it is advisable to strike a balance in both these exams

    Mr. Suresh,
I am in my 12th now. I wish to appear for the SAT as well as the SAT subject tests this year itself…. I have been intimated by the Net that if I am supposed to get into any US college next year in 2010, I shall have to appear for all those tests before december 2009…is that true?
Please let me know what my possible dates are…
    stay well

Yes, if you would like to start school in the fall 2010 term, it’s best advice to have your SAT scores all ready before December of the year before. This is because the admissions process for the top US colleges take a long time.

However, if you’re not aiming towards colleges like Harvard or Yale, there’s no need to stress. You can still find great places to study, and these colleges are easier to get into. Not all colleges require SAT subject tests, so you might not want to do those right away- focus on the regular SAT first and clear it because it’s the most likely to be required. Also you should probably write the TOEFL test.

You can contact some great school and send your inquiry about applications through our Directory.

    Dear learnhubba,

Most of the universities look for SAT score as well as your performance in +2 for admission into their undergraduate programs. So you cannot have a very low performance in your +2. A slightly low score in your +2 can always be compensated by a very good SAT score and also you could explain the same in your SOPs.

You can get yourself registered for the test date in January 2010. Click here to view the exam dates and deadlines for registration. Besides online, you can register for the test by mail.

To register by mail, you need an SAT Registration Booklet, which is available at your school counselor’s office. The Registration Form and return envelope are included in the SAT Registration Booklet.

Your completed registration form must be returned in the envelope provided with proper payment.

    Hi,

Why don’t you plan to give it in Jan. This will give you sufficient time to prepare your application package. Also, you can retake the exam to improve your score if required. I am sure you can easily manage both your board exams and SAT preparation if you can prepare a perfect study plan and stick to it.

    All the best

    Hey,

SAT is a test which is required for the evaluation of critical thinking and problem solving skills of the candidates which would help to measure their overall ability and potential to undertake the bachelor level study program.

SAT is a compulsory test to secure admission in any undergraduate program of any college of USA. This test is developed, managed and administered by College Entrance Examination Board, based in USA.

For preparation what all you have to do is just join our SAT community and you’ll be able to get free practice tests sessions, free assistance from experts and many more things. So there’s no need to run here and there for preparations, everything is available on our website.

For registration please follow the steps mentioned in the above lesson.

    Good Luck!!

    Hi,

SAT exam is used to evaluate a candidate’s critical thinking and problem solving skills which would help to measure their overall ability and potential.

There are no eligibility criteria for SAT. You can take it during your Class XI or even after the XII boards. Just keep your college application deadlines in mind as admission decisions are largely dependent on SAT scores (along with GPA, transcript, recommendations, etc.).

IF you have any plans to study in U.S University then you are required to begin the process 12 – 14 months in advance before the academic year in which you plan to enroll. As a counselor I would suggest you that you should at least spend around 3 months to prepare for the exam.

You can register in three ways:

Online Registration: You can now register for SAT online using a credit card.

Registering by Mail: To register by mail, you need a Registration Bulletin which is available at your school counselor’s office or on the Official SAT site. The Registration Form and return envelope are included in the Registration Bulletin.

Registration through International Representatives: If you are registering from outside Americas, you can also register through International representatives.

For more information on registration please Click here

    Good Luck!!

    Hello,

From the discussion above I perceive you are referring to SAT.

Please note, SAT is a standardized college entrance test that helps colleges and universities identify students who could succeed at their institutions and to connect students with educational opportunities beyond high school.

They are standardized tests designed for candidates aspiring for a Bachelors degree, and hence does not suffice your requirement.

If you are considering higher education in US you should be considering GRE (Graduate Record Examination). Please access the link below for more information on the same :

    GRE 2010

Do get back to us for further guidance.

    Take care!
