Writing Pet Peeve?? (Discussion)

We’ve all got ‘em. What is that one that that irks you in your own writing or while reading someone else’s?

Is it that msn messenger slang used in emails that makes you mad? Or maybe it’s the spelling of a specific word that irritates you.

What’s your writing pet peeve?

Unnecessary quotation marks (along with air quotes during a speech) and misused apostrophes are the bane of my existence. That is all. My own bad writing habits include using too many brackets or M-dashes, though as seen here! :)

I hate people who jump between grammar tenses. Are you time traveling? No, so how can be both in the past and present on the same sentence???

For myself, I can’t spell simple words. The one I hate most is people. I keep spelling it poeple and I NEVER get it right, and I have to go back and change it every single time. Or exercise… I can never get that one. Exesize? Excersice? Excercise?

The thing I hate most about the English language though is the gh. It’s always silent, so why write it? It just messes with your head. You can’t just write I thout, no, you have to make it into a long thought. Why? GH is unnecessary, if you don’t pronounce letters don’t write them down either.

I’m not a fan of spelling mistakes. Even in casual writing situations like MSN, it still bugs me when a word is spelled incorrectly.

I try as often as I can to keep up good spelling, plus with writing so much, you only improve right?
